Hamas's Armed Wing in Lebanon Launches Rockets at Israeli Military Position in Response to Gaza Conflict
Hamas's armed wing, the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades, announced that its militants in Lebanon had launched a barrage of rockets towards an Israeli military position on Monday.
The attack came amidst ongoing fighting in the Gaza Strip between Israeli forces and Hamas.
Hezbollah, Hamas's powerful Lebanese ally, has been exchanging near-daily fire with Israeli forces across the border, and other Palestinian factions and allied groups in Lebanon have also claimed attacks.
The Hamas statement was released on Telegram.
On Monday, the armed wing of Hamas in Gaza launched approximately 20 rockets into Israel from Lebanon, according to the Israeli army.
The army intercepted most of the rockets and reported no injuries or damage.
The attack came as Hamas negotiators were expected to travel to Egypt to discuss a potential truce in Gaza and the release of hostages with Israeli officials.
Previously, on April 21, the Qassam Brigades claimed responsibility for a rocket barrage into northern Israel.
In January, a strike in Beirut, Lebanon, resulted in the death of Hamas deputy leader Saleh Al-Aruri and six other militants.
The attack, which Israel reportedly carried out, took place in Hezbollah's stronghold in south Beirut.
The violence between Lebanon and Israel has resulted in the deaths of at least 385 people, including 11 Hamas fighters and 73 civilians.
Israel reports 11 soldiers and nine civilians killed on their side of the border.
The conflict has displaced tens of thousands of people on both sides.
