Hamas Confirms Death of Military Leader Mohammed Sinwar
The Palestinian militant group Hamas has confirmed the death of its Gaza military chief Mohammad Sinwar, following Israel's claim of his killing in a strike last May.
Cairo - The Palestinian militant group Hamas confirmed on Saturday the death of its Gaza military chief, Mohammad Sinwar.
Although details regarding his demise were not disclosed by Hamas, the organization published pictures of him alongside other senior leaders, describing them as 'martyrs'.
Mohammad Sinwar, who was the younger brother of Yahya Sinwar, the group's former leader and mastermind behind the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, rose to prominence within Hamas following his brother's death.
His ascension came after Yahya Sinwar was killed in combat a year later.
This confirmation comes after Israel claimed to have successfully targeted and eliminated Sinwar in a strike in May. With Sinwar's passing, Izz al-Din Haddad is now expected to assume control over Hamas' armed wing across the entire Gaza Strip, as he currently oversees operations in northern Gaza.
