Suspect Arrested in Shooting of Ukrainian Lawmaker
Ukrainian authorities have arrested a suspect in the shooting of former speaker of parliament Andriy Parubiy.
Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky announced early Monday that a suspect had been apprehended in connection with the shooting of former speaker of parliament Andriy Parubiy.
According to Zelensky, the interior minister's statement suggested that the killing was carefully planned, aligning with his initial remarks that it was a deliberate plot.
The incident took place on Saturday in Lviv, a city in western Ukraine, where Parubiy, a prominent figure in Ukraine's pro-European protest movements of 2004 and 2014, was shot dead.
Zelensky expressed gratitude to Ukrainian law enforcement for their swift and coordinated actions.
Following discussions with the chief prosecutor, Zelensky confirmed that the suspect has provided an initial statement to investigators.
Immediate investigative measures are now being taken to thoroughly examine all aspects of this murder case.
