Hamas Accepts Ceasefire Proposal, Evacuation Orders Issued in Rafah
Hamas has agreed to a ceasefire proposal in the ongoing war with Israel in Gaza.
The announcement came after Israeli military ordered evacuation of some areas in Rafah, housing over a million displaced people.
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh informed Qatari and Egyptian mediators about the acceptance of the ceasefire, but no details were provided.
Israel has yet to comment.
This would be the first truce since a week-long pause in November and follows numerous failed attempts to halt the fighting to free hostages and allow aid into Gaza.
Concerns arose that ceasefire talks in Cairo could stall due to a warning from Hamas official Izzat Al-Rashiq.
The concern stemmed from the potential for Israeli operations in Rafah, a city in the southern Gaza Strip and home to around half of Gaza's population, who had been pushed there due to Israel's seven-month-old assault.
