Green Riyadh: Irqah Neighborhood Transformation - 24,000 Trees, Pedestrian-Friendly Streets, and Traditional Architecture
The Green Riyadh program is working to enhance urban landscapes in Riyadh, with the Irqah neighborhood being the latest to undergo greening efforts.
This initiative is part of a city-wide project that has already transformed eight other neighborhoods.
Starting from April 18, 2024, 24,000 trees and shrubs will be planted in Irqah to beautify neighborhoods, schools, mosques, and government buildings, as well as 69 kilometers of streets.
The pedestrian-friendly streets aim to encourage walking, reducing healthcare costs and energy usage.
The text describes a project in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which includes the construction of 3-kilometer-long bicycle and pedestrian paths, restoration of 38 buildings using traditional Salmani architecture, and revitalization of 111 parking lots with green spaces.
Community engagement events, such as an exhibition and planting events, will educate the public about the project's progress, duration, and benefits.
The exhibition will take place near Prince Mishal Bin Abdulaziz Mosque in the Irqah neighborhood from April 18 to 27, 2024.
The Green Riyadh project is a part of a larger initiative launched by King Salman of Saudi Arabia, led by Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.
The goal is to plant 7.5 million trees in Riyadh, increasing the city's green coverage to 9.1% and per capita green space to 28 square meters.
This will help lower urban temperatures and improve air quality by reducing pollution and dust.
The project is part of a larger effort called the Green Saudi Arabia vision.
