Germany Aims to Enhance Cybersecurity Through Israeli Partnership
Germany seeks to establish a joint cyber research center and bolster intelligence collaboration with Israel.
BERLIN: In an effort to fortify its cybersecurity capabilities, Germany is planning to set up a joint German-Israeli cyber research center.
This move is part of broader plans to deepen the cooperation between both countries' intelligence and security agencies, as announced by German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt on Sunday.
The initiative underscores Germany's reliance on Israel's defense expertise amid growing concerns over threats from Russia and China, with a particular focus on bolstering NATO contributions.
Dobrindt emphasized that while military defense remains crucial, enhancing civil defense capabilities is equally important to strengthen overall defensive strategies.
His five-point plan aims at establishing what he terms a 'Cyber Dome' for Germany as part of its cyberdefense strategy.
The minister's visit to Israel, which commenced on Saturday, marks the beginning of these collaborative efforts.
In related news, Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Soeder has called for the acquisition of 2,000 interceptor missiles.
This move envisions equipping Germany with an 'Iron Dome' system akin to Israel's short-range missile defense technology, aiming to provide a robust shield against potential threats.
