El-Sisi and Biden Discuss Gaza Crisis, Urge Ceasefire and Humanitarian Aid, Reaffirm Two-State Solution
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and US President Joe Biden discussed Egypt's role in facilitating a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, and the potential danger of Israeli military escalation in Rafah, which could worsen the humanitarian crisis and have regional security implications.
The conflict began with Hamas attacks on Israel, resulting in over 1,170 deaths.
The leaders expressed concern about the situation and its potential consequences.
Militants in Gaza took approximately 250 hostages during recent conflicts, and Israeli authorities believe around 129 of them are still being held, with 34 believed to be dead.
During a call between President Biden and Egyptian President El-Sisi, El-Sisi emphasized the need for humanitarian aid workers to access Gaza freely.
The leaders agreed on preventing regional conflict expansion and reaffirmed their commitment to a two-state solution for peace between Israel and Palestine.
They also highlighted the strategic partnership between Egypt and the US and their efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
