Manchester United May Face Sheffield Without Rashford and McTominay Due to Injuries
Manchester United's manager, Erik ten Hag, announced on the eve of the Premier League match against Sheffield United that his team might be without striker Marcus Rashford and midfielder Scott McTominay due to injuries when they host the league's bottom-placed team at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
Rashford, 26, has had a stellar season in 2022-2023, scoring 30 goals across all competitions and earning the title of United's Player of the Year. However, the English international has managed to score only eight goals this season. Meanwhile, McTominay has netted ten goals across all competitions this season.
The duo was injured during the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City last Sunday, a game that United won on penalties after squandering a 3-0 lead at Wembley Stadium.
Ten Hag told reporters, "We had a problem with (Alejandro) Garnacho, which is why we substituted him during the match, but I believe he will be fine. We need to assess Scott's condition today; his participation is really doubtful. There is also uncertainty over Marcus's participation and an issue with Bruno (Fernandes) related to his hand, but I believe he's capable of playing."
United is already facing a defensive crisis with injuries to Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw, and Tyrell Malacia.
Currently sitting in seventh place in the league standings with 50 points, United is 16 points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa with six rounds remaining until the end of the season.
Sheffield United is fighting to avoid relegation and is languishing at the bottom of the table, having won only three out of 33 matches.
