Dutch Riot Police Arrest 125 at Violent Pro-Palestinian Demonstration in Amsterdam
A pro-Palestinian demonstration at an Amsterdam university was ended by Dutch riot police early Tuesday, resulting in the arrest of approximately 125 people.
The clashes between protesters and police were violent, with protesters using violence against officers and setting up tents on the campus.
Police dismantled the tents and restored order.
There were reports of fireworks being shot at police officers, but no immediate injuries were reported on either side.
The situation has since quieted down, with police remaining on the campus.
The outgoing Dutch Education minister, Robbert Dijkgraaf, expressed sadness over the intervention of police in university protests against academic ties with Israel and the war in Gaza.
Protests have been occurring in Europe, but on a smaller scale than in the US.
Last week, police removed student activists from Sciences Po university in Paris, and over 100 students are occupying Ghent university in Belgium, intending to prolong their climate and Gaza protests until Wednesday.
