British Foreign Secretary Urges Hamas to Accept Ceasefire Deal, Release Thousands of Palestinian Prisoners for Hostage Release
British Foreign Secretary David Cameron called on Hamas to accept a 40-day ceasefire and the release of thousands of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for freeing Israeli hostages.
Hamas is scheduled to meet in Egypt to discuss a truce in Gaza and hostage release after seven months of conflict, which began when Hamas militants killed over 1,200 people in southern Israel.
Cameron described the offer as "very generous." British Foreign Minister David Cameron urged Hamas to accept a ceasefire deal in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.
The deal, which aims to halt the fighting, has been pushed for by Egypt, Qatar, and the US for months.
Cameron emphasized the importance of this deal for the possibility of a Palestinian state, stating that Hamas leaders must leave Gaza and dismantle terrorist infrastructure for a two-state solution to become a reality.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan and former British Prime Minister David Cameron discussed the importance of peace and security for both the Palestinian people and Israel at a global growth forum.
Sharif emphasized that peace in Gaza is essential for global peace and economic development.
He also warned that the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has already shown the negative impact of conflict on economic growth, causing commodity prices to rise, inflation to increase, and disruptions to food and raw material imports and exports.
Saudi Arabia's Minister of Economy and Planning, Faisal Alibrahim, agreed with Pakistani leader's statements about the need to boost economic growth.
He emphasized the importance of increasing productivity and global collaboration to achieve this goal.
Alibrahim stated that productivity must improve and suggested focusing on interventions to help growth.
Additionally, he stressed the importance of collaboration over fragmentation, as a more fragmented world leads to lower growth rates and increased costs.
