Arab League Secretary-General, British Minister Discuss Gaza Crisis, Call for UN Ceasefire and Humanitarian Aid
On Thursday, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit met with British Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa, Lord Tariq Ahmad, in Cairo to discuss the conflict in Gaza.
Aboul Gheit expressed gratitude for the UK's vote in favor of a UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Palestinian territory.
He urged for the immediate implementation of the resolution to stop the Israeli military campaign and emphasized the importance of providing humanitarian aid to alleviate the crisis and famine in Gaza.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister, Roshdy Ahmed, and the Palestinian Foreign Minister, Ahmad Aboul Gheit, discussed the importance of unified diplomatic efforts after military actions to implement the UN Security Council's resolution for stability and a political pathway to a Palestinian state.
They agreed on the need to enact the UN resolution and deliver aid to Gaza through land routes.
The British Minister also visited Egypt to discuss ways to increase humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza with Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry.
Ahmad met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Shoukry during Ramadan in Cairo and discussed the importance of implementing UN Security Council resolutions to deliver aid to Gaza, release hostages, and advance a two-state solution.
Egypt is considered a crucial partner, and strengthening UK-Egypt relations will help promote stability in the region.
Ahmad also expressed excitement about experiencing Egypt's culture during the holy month of Ramadan.
