AI as a Tool, Not a Replacement: Experts Discuss the Role of Artificial Intelligence in Addressing the Global Teacher Shortage
Experts and officials at the World Economic Forum's Special Meeting in Riyadh discussed the global teacher shortage and the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in addressing it.
Laura Frigenti, from the Global Partnership for Education, stated that the teacher shortage is a significant issue in low- and middle-income countries.
Gaspard Twagirayezu, Rwanda's education minister, acknowledged the potential of AI to revolutionize education but emphasized that it won't replace teachers.
Instead, AI can be used to create educational materials for teachers, reducing the need for expensive training sessions.
AI can help teachers learn through personalized solutions in education, but the implementation of AI in education must be tailored to the specific conditions of each country to avoid widening the gap between well-funded and underfunded education systems.

Frigenti stated that integrating technological and AI improvements into education is just one aspect of the sector's transformation.
Other necessary changes include updating curricula and addressing the challenges teachers face.
