The news came after a Covid outbreak occurred in an old tenement building in Yau Ma Tei, with health authorities reporting more than 80 infections in the Yau Tsim Mong District in the past two weeks.

Health Secretary Sophia Chan Siu-chee said people can get themselves tested at the mobile testing station in Kwun Chung Sports Centre. Mobile testing vans will also be dispatched to enable members of the public to get tested.

The testings will be available between Saturday and Monday.

Chan said in order to achieve zero infections in the area, authorities will have to act swiftly and decisively.

“There are infection risks with the area being quite crowded along with not-so-good hygiene conditions, that is why we decided to expand the mandatory testing in a bid to cut off transmission chains as quickly as possible,” stressed the health chief.

“Officers who can speak Nepalese, Urdu and other languages will also be dispatched to offer support for people from ethnic minorities,” she added.

Chan also encouraged other residents in the district, who are not covered by the mandatory testing order, to get tested as soon as possible.
