Saudi Lawyer Referred to Disciplinary Committee for Misleading Social Media Post About Reduced Sentence
The Saudi Ministry of Justice has taken disciplinary action against a lawyer for sharing misleading information on social media, which went against the Rules of Professional Conduct for Lawyers.
The lawyer, who uses the X platform, was referred to the Lawyers Disciplinary Committee for publishing false information about a court ruling.
The ministry stated that the lawyer's post contained inaccurate claims about a ruling by the Court of Appeal, suggesting that a sentence of five years had been reduced to six months.
This behavior is in violation of the Rules of Professional Conduct, specifically Rule 37.
This rule requires lawyers to avoid misleading, falsifying, deceiving, or engaging in any other unprofessional conduct when using media or advertising, including electronic media.
The ministry emphasized the importance of upholding the honor and integrity of the legal profession.
