Saudi Forum to Promote Sufficiency-Based Climate Policies at UN Conference
The Saudi Green Building Forum will emphasize reducing resource demand before improving efficiency in climate policies.
Riyadh: The Saudi Green Building Forum is set to participate in the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference, taking place in Belém, Brazil, from November 10th to 21st.
This participation underscores the forum's role as a national institution with consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and accreditation under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The Saudi Press Agency reported that such involvement highlights the contribution of Saudi experts and best practices aligned with Vision 2030 in fostering global sustainability efforts.
The forum will particularly focus on the principle of 'Sufficiency Before Efficiency' in climate policies, which advocates for reducing resource demand at its source before focusing on efficiency improvements to promote climate justice.
Faisal Al-Fadl, Secretary-General of the forum, noted that adopting this approach signifies a shift in sustainable building thought.
He clarified: "Sufficiency does not equate to limiting development; it seeks a balance between human needs and the Earth's ability to sustain resources, ensuring social equity alongside environmental protection".
