Saudi Council of Health Insurance to Expand Mandatory Insurance Coverage for Domestic Workers
New Study Aims to Determine Impact of Mandatory Health Insurance on Uninsured Individuals and Propose Policy Adjustments
The Saudi Council of Health Insurance is set to conclude a contract with a consulting firm to conduct studies on introducing insurance benefits for individual workers who have not yet been covered by health insurance.
The study will assess the effects of making health insurance mandatory for domestic workers, registered with a single employer if their number exceeds four, starting from July 1, 2024.The initiative includes preparing a report that examines the outcomes of the implementation and provides technical opinions on expanding insurance coverage to remaining categories of domestic workers, such as those employed by two or more employers.
Additionally, the study will explore the feasibility of increasing insurance coverage limits in line with the Unified Health Insurance Policy approved by the Council of Health Insurance. The proposed policy for domestic workers' insurance includes coverage for primary healthcare, public healthcare, and emergency cases.
It provides hospitalization benefits without requiring co-pays, unlimited clinic visits for emergency treatment, vaccinations, and tests.
