Riyadh: In October, Saudi Arabia is marking both World Sight Day and White Cane Safety Day to intensify efforts in raising awareness on eye health issues and to advocate for the rights and care of individuals dealing with visual impairments.

These observances aim to shed light on the primary causes of blindness, underscore the importance of prevention and treatment options available, and encourage the public to undergo regular eye examinations for early detection, especially as they age.

The awareness campaign emphasizes the significance of maintaining vision health across all age groups within the Saudi population.

Ebsar Foundation CEO Amal Al-Hunaiti has noted that several events will be organized throughout October by the foundation to educate the broader community on vision health and related matters.

Additionally, a special program has been initiated by the association for mothers whose children are visually impaired, aiming to highlight the crucial role these mothers play in supporting their children's development.

Recreational outings have also been arranged for young individuals who are blind or partially sighted, with the dual aim of fostering social inclusion and providing educational sessions on how to interact effectively with such individuals in society.

The foundation is further participating in the Global Health Exhibition later this month, an event that reaffirms their commitment to raising awareness regarding eye care and advocating for improved healthcare services for vision-related ailments.

These efforts are part of a broader initiative by the Saudi authorities to ensure that visual health issues receive the attention they deserve and to promote an inclusive society where individuals with disabilities are fully integrated members.
