Saudi Arabia Joins World ATA Carnet Council, Implementing Temporary Import System for Goods
The Federation of Saudi Chambers (FSC) announced that Saudi Arabia will join the World ATA Carnet Council (WATAC) in June, making it the 80th country to use the ATA Carnet system.
The ATA Carnet is an international customs document that allows for duty-free and tax-free temporary entry of goods, whether shipped or hand-carried.
Established by the International ATA Conventions and governed by the World Customs Organization and the International Chamber of Commerce's World Chambers Federation, the ATA Carnet aims to encourage world trade and reduce trade barriers caused by different national customs regulations.
The text discusses a customs document that permits the temporary import of various goods into Saudi Arabia without paying duties, taxes, or undergoing customs procedures.
This arrangement lasts up to one year, with the expectation that the goods will be re-exported or exported before the deadline.
This initiative aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to make the Kingdom an attractive destination for economic, sports, cultural, and tourism activities.
It also prepares Saudi Arabia to host international events like Expo 2030, the 2034 FIFA World Cup, and the Dakar Rally.
The Federation of Saudi Chambers will oversee the implementation of this temporary entry system for goods, in accordance with the International Istanbul Convention on Temporary Admission.
The FSC (Federation of Saudi Chambers) will issue ATA Carnet documents, allowing beneficiaries to temporarily import goods without standard customs procedures or fees and taxes.
This system will benefit various sectors in Saudi Arabia, particularly entertainment, arts, and exhibitions, by enabling the import of goods, products, commercial samples, and professional equipment without customs duties.
This will revitalize seasonal events and exhibitions and reduce operational costs.
