American Airlines Jet and Military Helicopter Collide Near Reagan National Airport; No Survivors Expected
On Wednesday evening, an American Airlines regional jet collided mid-air with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
The passenger aircraft, en route from Wichita, Kansas, was carrying 64 individuals, including passengers and crew members.
The military helicopter had three service members on board.
Following the collision, both aircraft descended into the Potomac River.
Rescue teams have recovered 27 bodies from the plane and one from the helicopter.
Authorities have stated that no survivors are expected.
This incident marks the most fatal aviation disaster on U.S. soil in 24 years.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have initiated investigations to determine the cause of the collision.
