Saudi Arabia Expresses Condolences After Sudan Landslide Kills Over 1,000
Landslide in Darfur region buries entire village, leaving only one survivor.
Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has conveyed its condolences to the government and people of Sudan following a devastating landslide that destroyed an entire mountain village in the Darfur region.
The disaster occurred on Sunday after heavy rain triggered the catastrophe, according to the rebel Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM/A), which controls the area.
The SLM/A stated that the village of Tarasin in the remote Jebel Marra range was entirely flattened, resulting in the deaths of at least 1,000 people with only one survivor.
The SLM/A has called upon the United Nations and international aid agencies to assist in collecting the bodies of the victims, including men, women, and children.
The organization, which maintains a neutral stance in Sudan's ongoing civil war between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, has been governing an autonomous region within Jebel Marra.
In response to this disaster, Saudi Arabia's Foreign Ministry expressed solidarity with Sudan and offered sincere condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
Additionally, the Kingdom wished a swift recovery for those injured in the landslide.
