Formula 1 is currently heading to the United States for the next grand prix in the 2021 calendar, yet controversy has been sparked by the release of Saudi Arabian clothing rules for the visit of the sport in December.

In what was a new race for the 2021 season, Formula 1 was due to head to Jeddah in what would have been the first ever F1 event held in Saudi Arabia.

Scheduled to take place on December 5, the race is now shrouded in controversy with sport's governing body having been issued with a list of what is acceptable attire and what isn't.

There is, unsurprisingly, particular focus on the clothing acceptable for women to wear, with it deemed that they aren't allowed to wear whatever they feel comfortable in, but rather what conforms to the guidelines set by the Saudi government.

This includes: no excessive makeup, no transparent clothing, no clothing which rests above the knee, no miniskirts, no backless dresses, nothing which shows straps, no tight clothing and no bikinis.

Men, on the other hand, have a far less restrictive list, although one which is still likely to be seen as problematic by F1 personnel.

Bermuda shorts, shorts, tank tops and tight pants are all prohibited for males, even though temperatures in Jeddah in December are usually above 30 degrees, not taking into account the fact that the pit crews and engineers will be working in even hotter conditions in the garages.
