Russian Missile Attack in Ukraine's Southeast Leaves Five Dead and Over Two Dozen Injured
At least four of the injured are in a critical condition after strike on Samar city.
KYIV: A Russian missile attack on Friday resulted in the deaths of at least five individuals and caused over two dozen injuries in Samar, an industrial city located in Ukraine's southeast.
According to regional governor Serhiy Lysak's report on the Telegram messaging app, four of those injured are in severe condition and have been transported to a local hospital for treatment.
No information has been provided regarding the extent of damage to the city infrastructure.
This incident marks the second attack on Samar in merely three days, following an assault on an unidentified infrastructure facility that led to the fatalities of two people earlier this week.
Elsewhere, in the Kherson region situated hundreds of kilometers southward, authorities have advised residents to anticipate prolonged periods without electricity due to a Russian assault targeting a key energy facility.
Governor Oleksandr Prokudin stated through Telegram that 'the Russians have decided to plunge the region into darkness.' In recent weeks, Russia has escalated its military efforts against Ukrainian cities, particularly focusing on Kyiv, which is now more than three years since the start of the full-scale invasion.
Overnight into Friday, Ukraine's air force reported that Russia launched 363 long-range drones and eight missiles aimed at Starokostiantyniv, a small western city housing an essential air base.
No information regarding the extent of destruction or casualties in Starokostiantyniv has been disclosed.
