Russian Attacks on Ukrainian Power Plants: Explosions Reported in Central and Western Regions, DTEK Suffers 50% Capacity Loss
On March 29, 2024, Russian forces launched missile and drone attacks on thermal and hydro power plants in central and western Ukraine, according to Ukrenergo.
The power grid operator reported that facilities in the central and western regions were damaged during the night.
At least one person was injured in the Kamianske district near Dnipro, where infrastructure was also targeted.
Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko confirmed attacks on power facilities in Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, and Cherkasy regions.
Russian attacks using drones and missiles targeted electricity generation facilities in Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytskyi regions, and the city of Dnipro in Ukraine.
Explosions were reported, and the largest private power firm, DTEK, confirmed that three of its thermal power plants were severely damaged.
Ukrainian power distributor Yasno stated that DTEK had lost approximately 50 percent of its capacity following these attacks.
