The Riyadh public transport authority has announced a new start time for the Riyadh Metro, now beginning operations daily at 5:30 AM.
This adjustment is designed to cater to the growing demand for metro services and support efforts to reduce dependency on private vehicles, alleviate traffic congestion, and enhance mobility across the capital city.
According to officials, this schedule change aligns with broader plans to expand and improve the public transport network in line with sustainability and quality-of-life goals.
The authority aims to provide a more efficient and accessible service for commuters and students who require early-morning transportation options.
In August, the Royal Commission for Riyadh City reported that since its launch in December, the metro had transported 100 million passengers, achieving an operational punctuality rate of over 99.78 percent.
The blue line along the Olaya corridor accommodated the highest number of riders at 46.5 million, followed by the red line on King Abdullah Road with 17 million passengers and the orange line on Madinah Road with 12 million passengers.
The remaining three lines recorded a combined total of 24.5 million riders.
The Riyadh Metro service is integrated with an extensive bus network, demand-based shuttle services, and public transport parking facilities to offer a comprehensive transportation solution.
