Riyadh financial hub earns Guinness Record for world's largest continuous pedestrian skyway network
King Abdullah Financial District in Riyadh awarded record for its 15.46 km network of climate-controlled walkways.
The King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) in Riyadh has been recognized by Guinness World Records for the world’s largest continuous pedestrian skyway network, stretching an impressive 15.46 kilometers.
This expansive network links 95 buildings through 42 climate-controlled skywalks, facilitating year-round pedestrian access across the district.
The innovative skywalk system is built above ground and integrates with Riyadh's metro, providing a convenient and traffic-free travel option for workers, visitors, and residents.
Constructed using 30,000 square meters of glass and over 3,000 tonnes of steel, the project involved more than 1,200 personnel and required an extensive 5 million safe work hours.
The skywalks connect various components within KAFD, including offices, homes, shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues, promoting walkability between work, home, and leisure activities.
This connectivity is integral to the district's smart city vision.
Faddy AlAql, chief asset delivery officer at KAFD Development and Management Co., expressed pride in the recognition from Guinness World Records, highlighting that it validates KAFD as a model for urban development.
The skyway network exemplifies the district’s commitment to enhancing mobility, connecting assets, and creating an accessible environment.
Mbali Nkosi, official adjudicator for Guinness World Records, praised KAFD's achievement by stating that the district has set a new benchmark for walkable urban design in an era where sustainability drives innovation.
The skyway network redefines previous records and showcases KAFD’s forward-thinking approach to urban planning.
KAFD is home to more than 90 international and local companies, as well as 19 regional headquarters, further establishing its status as a key business hub in Riyadh.
