RIO DE JENEIRO — The 17th BRICS Summit 2025 kicked off in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Sunday with Saudi Arabia joining as an invited country.
Led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan, representing Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, the delegation's attendance marks a significant step towards strengthening global partnerships within the influential alliance.
As one of the newest members of the BRICS group, which initially consisted of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, Saudi Arabia, along with Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, has been integrated to foster a more inclusive and sustainable governance framework.
The summit's theme, under Brazil's chairmanship, centers on 'Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance.'
On Monday, Prince Faisal attended the second day of the summit, engaging in discussions that encompass global development efforts, climate issues, and the ongoing fight against pandemics and diseases.
The expanded BRICS alliance is convening to explore political and socioeconomic coordination opportunities, identifying business prospects and economic complementarities among member nations.
