LONDON: Samir Zitouni, a crew member who displayed heroic actions in protecting passengers during a mass stabbing incident on a Huntingdon-bound train, has been discharged from the hospital.
The incident occurred on Nov. 1 on a London North Eastern Railway service from Doncaster to London while it was passing through Cambridgeshire.
According to LNER, Zitouni played an instrumental role in saving numerous lives during the attack.
His family expressed their gratitude for the public's support and kind words regarding his brave actions that night.
They also mentioned that Samir still has a significant recovery ahead of him and would like to be left in privacy to care for him as a family.
Zitouni has been serving LNER for over 20 years, employed as a customer experience host onboard.
David Horne, the managing director at LNER, commended his colleague's courage during the crisis.
'In a moment of crisis, Sam did not hesitate as he stepped forward to protect those around him.
His actions were incredibly brave, and we are so proud of him,' stated Horne.
Nine out of 11 people treated in hospitals initially reported having life-threatening injuries following the attack.
The attacker, Anthony Williams, was remanded into custody at Peterborough Magistrates' Court on Nov. 3 and charged with ten counts of attempted murder.
He is set to appear at Cambridge Crown Court on December 1.
