London Mayoral Candidate Susan Hall Criticized for Dismissing Islamophobic Remarks as 'Hurty Words'
The Conservative mayoral candidate for London, Susan Hall, has come under fire for dismissing Islamophobic tweets as "hurty words." Hall previously responded to a tweet referring to London Mayor Sadiq Khan as "our nipple-height mayor of Londonistan" with the words "thank you Katie." When asked if Muslims might find her response jarring, Hall instead focused on the affordability of the £12.50-a-day congestion charge for poor Londoners.
Susan Hall, a Conservative mayoral candidate in London, made controversial comments about the city's Ultra-Low Emission Zone (Ulez) charge, comparing it to "hurty words." The Muslim Council of Britain criticized her remarks, drawing parallels between her comments and the dismissal of Islamophobia as "hurty words" instead of recognizing it as a form of racism.
The Council also highlighted the rise in Islamophobic hate crimes and urged Hall to acknowledge the issue.
Susan Hall's mayoral campaign faced criticism this week after she deleted an advertisement that incorrectly targeted London Mayor Sadiq Khan using footage from New York City instead of London.
Previously, Hall claimed she had been pickpocketed on the London Underground, but her wallet was later found without any missing items.
In response to the backlash, Hall's campaign stated that she would prioritize public safety by increasing police presence, making women feel safer, scrapping the Ultra-Low Emission Zone expansion, and building more affordable family homes, distinguishing her from Khan.
