Award-winning Israeli author David Grossman calls his country's campaign in Gaza 'genocide' and says he cannot help using the term after seeing images from the besieged territory.
Grossman told Italian daily La Repubblica that for many years, he refused to use the term 'genocide,' but now feels compelled to do so due to the images he has seen and conversations with individuals present in Gaza.
He stated that using the word is akin to an avalanche, resulting in increased destruction and suffering.
Grossman's works have been translated into numerous languages and have won international recognition.
He has also won Israel's top literary prize, the Israel Prize for Literature, in 2018.
The celebrated author has long been a critic of the Israeli government, expressing his devastation at the combination of 'Israel' and 'famine,' given the historical context of the Holocaust.
