The Israeli military intercepts a missile launched by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels from Yemen, targeting Ben Gurion Airport.
JERUSALEM: The Israeli military confirmed that it successfully intercepted a missile fired from Yemen on Friday.
According to an announcement by the Israeli military, the missile was targeted towards several areas in Israel and was subsequently intercepted.
This incident comes as tensions continue to escalate between Israel and the Iran-backed Houthi militants.
The Houthi military spokesman, Yahya Saree, stated in a video message that the militant group targeted Israel's Ben Gurion Airport using a 'Palestine 2' hypersonic ballistic missile.
The Houthis have been launching repeated attacks against Israel since their ally Hamas initiated hostilities in October 2023, leading to the Gaza war.
The Houthis claim they are supporting the Palestinian cause and paused their operations during a two-month ceasefire in Gaza that concluded in March.
However, they resumed their missile and drone strikes following Israel's resumption of major military operations.
In response to these ongoing threats, Israel has carried out retaliatory strikes against Houthi-held ports and the airport in Sanaa, the capital city under the militant's control.
