Arab and European Countries Call for Single Palestinian Government and Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza
A coordination meeting between Arab and European countries in Riyadh on Monday called for the establishment of a single Palestinian government in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza Strip.
The joint statement issued at the meeting's conclusion expressed support for immediate ceasefire efforts, hostage releases, and ending the war in Gaza.
The statement also urged an end to all illegal unilateral actions and violations in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, and addressed the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
Saudi and Norwegian foreign ministers, Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Espen Barth Eide, led a meeting between the Ministerial Committee of the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit on Gaza and European foreign ministers and representatives.
The goal was to find a solution to the ongoing conflict in Gaza and support the two-state solution.
The meeting emphasized the need to strengthen state-building efforts, back the new Palestinian government, and establish a unified Palestinian government in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza.
The importance of transitioning the conflict into a political arena to achieve a political resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was also highlighted.
In the meeting, the ministers discussed the importance of taking concrete steps towards establishing a Palestinian state as part of the two-state solution.
They emphasized the urgency to act and the need for coordination.
The topic of recognition of a Palestinian state by countries that have not yet done so was also addressed, with consideration given to the timing and context of such recognition.
The ministers stressed the need for a holistic approach to implementing the two-state solution, which must be in accordance with international law and previously agreed initiatives such as UN Security Council Resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
A peace meeting was held with the goal of reaching a just and enduring peace between Palestinians and Israel, ensuring the rights of Palestinians and Israel's security.
Participants included foreign ministers and representatives from Algeria, Bahrain, Belgium, Egypt, EU, UK, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Jordan, Arab League, Palestine, Portugal, Qatar, Slovenia, Spain, Türkiye, and UAE.
The objective is to establish normal relations and stability in the region.
