1,400-year-old Juatha Mosque one of the most prominent religious, heritage monuments

The Juatha Mosque in Al-Ahsa governorate is an Islamic historical and cultural symbol of the first houses of worship in the east of the Arabian Peninsula and is one of the most prominent religious and heritage monuments that dates back 1,400 years, to the beginnings of the Islamic era.
The Juatha Mosque was built by Banu Abdul Qais and their allies, Banu Tamim and Bakr Bin Wael, who were then living in the same place. It is located in the eastern Al-Shaba Mountain Plain 20 kilometers northeast of the city of Hofouf and to the north of Al-Hallila, Al-Kalabiah, and Al-Miqdam.

Through its design and building, which is the foundation of the houses of worship in Islam, the mosque consists of three corridors, a mihrab, and remnants of the minbar and armrest.

The Juatha Mosque, which dates back to the seventh year of migration, occupies a great place in the hearts of Muslims, as it is the first mosque founded in the east of the Arabian Peninsula, and the second mosque in Islam where Friday prayer was performed, after the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah.

According to a historical architectural study, the mosque was renovated in 1430 Hijri, with the ceilings, doors, and windows used in the original construction, and reconstruction of the collapsed parts of the mosque.

The land of Juatha was a destination for commercial convoys of dates, agricultural products, and perfumes because of its geographical position. Juatha is considered a commercial market for the “strategic location of Al-Ahsa.”
