UK Distances New Spy Chief from 'Nazi' Grandfather
Blaise Metreweli, set to become the first female head of MI6, is being separated from her family's controversial past.
The British government has distanced Blaise Metreweli, the incoming head of its foreign intelligence service, from her grandfather who was reportedly a Nazi spy.
Metreweli will assume the position in the autumn, marking a historic moment as she becomes the first woman to lead MI6 in its 116-year-old history.
The Daily Mail newspaper recently uncovered information that her paternal grandfather, Constantine Dobrowolski, defected from the Soviet Union's Red Army and became a Nazi informant in the Chernigiv region of modern-day Ukraine.
According to German archives, Dobrowolski was known as 'the Butcher' or 'Agent No 30' by Wehrmacht commanders.
