Sustainable Charcoal Alternatives Gain Traction in Saudi Arabia
In Saudi Arabia, an eco-friendly charcoal alternative made from olive pits, known as "jift", is gaining popularity.
This method supports local agriculture, reduces environmental impact, and aligns with the nation's efforts to increase renewable energy.
During olive harvesting, waste products are recycled into jift, which has substantial benefits for the environment and the economy according to olive oil specialist, Ibrahim Lahbib Sabouni. Jift burns longer than traditional charcoal and is affordable at SR40 per carton.
With a commitment to greener practices, Saudi Arabia is investing in technologies like jift to progress towards its 2060 net-zero emissions goal.
