Saudi Arabia to Host 6th UN World Data Forum in 2026, Makkah Constructs Eco-friendly Stone Park Using Recycled Materials
Saudi Arabia is set to host the 6th United Nations World Data Forum in Riyadh in 2026, thanks to a successful bid led by its General Authority for Statistics. The forum will welcome around 22,000 delegates from 193 countries, highlighting global statistical innovation and collaboration, while showcasing Saudi Arabia's advancements in statistical work.
Meanwhile, Saudi Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif recently met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo. This meeting aimed to strengthen bilateral relations and security cooperation, with Prince Abdulaziz conveying greetings from King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Shifting gears to environmental sustainability, Makkah is constructing its first stone park, spanning 1,000 square meters, using recycled materials and leftover stones from local projects. This innovative park will not only enhance landscapes but also promote environmental sustainability by integrating local heritage with eco-friendly technologies.
In another effort to promote sustainable practices, the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Nature Reserve Development Authority will participate in the eighth Katara International Hunting and Falcons Exhibition in Qatar in 2024. Their aim is to showcase sustainable hunting practices, increase game populations, and protect biodiversity within their vast 91,500 square kilometers reserve.
On the cultural front, Saudi Ambassador Dr. Ghazi Binzagr engaged in a cultural exchange event at Shizuoka Futaba Junior and Senior High School in Japan. During his visit, he discussed Saudi culture, bilateral relations, and common values with 230 pupils, and even participated in a tea ceremony, receiving positive reactions from the curious students.
Lastly, amidst ongoing conflict and a humanitarian crisis, Sudan has rejected a UN proposal for the deployment of an independent force to protect displaced civilians. With over a year of conflict causing severe food shortages for more than 25 million people, the Sudanese government dismissed the UN Human Rights Council's recommendations, instead blaming the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces for targeting civilians.
