Saudi Arabia accounted for 39.4 percent of Japan’s oil imports in December 2024, exporting 31.05 million barrels to the country, according to figures released by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s Agency of Natural Resources and Energy.
In total, Japan imported 78.85 million barrels of oil in the month, with 96.3 percent (75.94 million barrels) coming from Arab nations.
The UAE was the largest supplier, contributing 35.97 million barrels, or 45.6 percent of Japan’s total oil imports.
Other Arab nations, including Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman, supplied a smaller proportion, with Kuwait providing 5 million barrels (6.3 percent), Qatar 3.41 million barrels (4.3 percent), and Oman 0.5 million barrels (0.6 percent).
Non-Arab suppliers, including countries from Central and South America, the US, Oceania, and Southeast Asia, contributed 3.7 percent of Japan’s oil imports, primarily affected by geopolitical decisions such as the ban on imports from Iran and Russia.
