Más de 10 millones de infectados por el nuevo coronavirus en el mundo

Number of COVID-19 infected in the world reach 10 million

More than 10 million people have been infected by the new coronavirus in the world, of them, more than half in Europe and the United States, according to a count carried out by the AFP with official sources on Sunday at 9:30 GMT.
Latin America, with more than 400,000 additional cases in the last seven days, is the continent where the pandemic is expanding most rapidly.

At least 10,003,942 cases, of which 498,779 have died, have been reported, particularly in Europe, the most affected continent with 2,637,546 cases and 195,975 deaths, and the United States (2,510,323 cases and 125,539 deaths).

The pace of the pandemic's spread continues to accelerate, with one million new cases reported in just six days.

The number of reported cases in the world has doubled since May 21. 94 days passed between the first case announced in China in late December and the first million cases in the world.

The United States topped 2.5 million cases on Saturday, and that same day India topped 500,000 with a record 18,500 cases in one day. India is expected to top a million cases by mid-July, according to experts.

However, these figures only reflect part of the reality, since many countries do not carry out diagnostic tests or do not have sufficient resources to carry out massive detection campaigns.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that the number of those infected is at least 10 times more, that is, more than 20 million cases accumulated, which represents between 5% and 8% of the population.

Contagions are increasing in 30 of the 50 US states, particularly in the largest and most populous in the south and west, that is, California, Texas and Florida.

Latin America and the Caribbean is the part of the world where the disease progresses the fastest.

From June 21 to 27, the region registered 408,401 new cases, against 253,624 in the United States and Canada and 121,824 in Europe.

The increase in Latin America (2,432,558 patients, of whom 110,695 died) is largely due to Brazil (1,313,667 cases, of which 246,088 in the last seven days), but also Peru (275,989, additional 24,651), Chile ( 267,766, 31,018), Mexico (212,802, 37,600 new) and Colombia (88,592, additional 22,959).

Asia registers a flare-up of new cases per day due to the constant spread in India (528,859 cases, of which 118,398 in the last seven days), in Pakistan (202,955, 26,338 new) and Bangladesh (137,787, 25,481).

In Europe, the number of new daily cases has stabilized for more than a month at around 20,000.
