Speaking to Okaz/Saudi Gazette, Muhammad Al-Baqami, spokesman of the mayoralty, said that there were no casualties or damage due to rain that was experienced in many parts of Jeddah on Monday.

The field teams from the mayoralty have swung into action to drain water in several parts of the city.

“The mayoralty, in coordination with the relevant authorities, continues its efforts to cope with the rain weather situation until the end of the week,” he said.

He noted that the closure of a number of tunnels in Jeddah was part of the precautionary measures and that they are reopened for the traffic of vehicles.

“Things are going on well after the rain that hit many parts of Jeddah on Monday,” he said.

Al-Baqami said that the mayoralty and branch municipalities are implementing a plan to spray insecticides in pools of stagnant water formed following rain as part of efforts to combat dengue fever.

There are pools of stagnant water formed in some localities that raised fears of the spread of dengue fever.

Meanwhile, during a tour of many neighborhoods in north Jeddah, Okaz/Saudi Gazette saw that the situation of major roads and streets has returned to normal after draining rainwater following hours of rain on Monday.

These include Prince Sultan Street, Hira Street, Quraish Street, Madinah Road, Prince Ahmed Street, Haramain Expressway, in addition to branch streets in a number of neighborhoods.
