Hamas-Backed Students Win Big in Bir Zeit University Elections
Hamas-backed students have won the annual student council elections at Bir Zeit University in the West Bank.
The Islamic bloc affiliated with Hamas won 25 seats with 4,481 votes, while the Fatah-supported bloc claimed 20 seats with 3,539 votes.
The leftist students' bloc gained six seats.
The vote is seen as a barometer of change in Palestinian public political opinion, with Hamas and Fatah engaging in fierce debates and spending tens of thousands of dollars on their campaigns.
