In a bid to reduce plastic waste and promote animal welfare, Hail Municipality has introduced a smart machine that recycles used bottles, leftover food, and water into meals for stray animals.
Riyadh: In an effort to combat plastic waste and foster compassion towards stray animals, the Hail Municipality has unveiled an innovative solution.
The Saqya Rahma initiative is aimed at achieving a delicate balance between sustainability and the welfare of animals through a technology-driven approach.
Saud Al-Ali, assistant secretary of Hail Region for Media and Corporate Communication, explained that the primary goal is to transform recyclable waste, including plastic bottles, leftover food, and water, into resources that support the feeding and hydration of stray animals.
This initiative not only aids environmental conservation but also ensures that discarded materials are repurposed in a responsible manner.
By recycling these items for animal feed, residents can actively contribute to reducing plastic waste while simultaneously addressing the needs of stray animals within their communities.
The machine is designed with compartments where people can deposit leftover food and water, along with empty bottles for recycling.
Once processed, the bottles serve as raw materials for creating a sustainable feeding system for animals in need.
This project also seeks to cultivate long-term behavioral changes among residents by promoting sustainable practices and reducing the environmental impact of plastic pollution.
Furthermore, it aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, which emphasizes enhancing the quality of life and promoting environmental sustainability through initiatives like this one.
The initiative is expected to encourage community involvement in environmental work and foster eco-friendly habits among individuals.
Mohammad Al-Lahham, a resident who cares for stray cats, has expressed enthusiasm for this program, noting its potential to create awareness about recycling and its positive impact on animal welfare.
He also pointed out the public health benefits of addressing the needs of stray animals, as neglected animals can contribute to the spread of disease within communities.
Al-Lahham is hopeful that this initiative will not only benefit Hail but also inspire a broader movement towards reducing plastic waste and promoting recycling practices across the Kingdom.
