During the G7 summit in Bari, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that Israel is falling into a trap set by Hamas in its Gaza conflict.
Meloni emphasized that the EU would not directly contribute to a $50 billion loan for Ukraine, which is funded by interest from frozen Russian assets.
She also addressed internal EU matters and her support for Ursula von der Leyen's reappointment as Commission president.
Furthermore, Meloni dismissed controversies over the final G7 communique's omission of the word 'abortion' and the commitment to LGBTQ+ rights, highlighting that no rights had changed since she took office.
Meloni noted Israel’s need for security but urged for acceptance of President Biden's peace plan, which involves a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
She criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent peace proposal, labeling it as propaganda.
