German government engages with Taliban envoys to facilitate the return of deported Afghans.
The German government has announced that it is establishing official contacts with the Taliban administration in
Afghanistan to coordinate the deportation process.
This move comes after Germany sent back 81 convicted Afghans to their home country last Friday, marking the second such flight since the resumption of deportations to
Afghanistan last year.
While Germany does not recognize the current Taliban leaders, it has maintained 'technical contacts' with them through Qatar's facilitation efforts.
According to sources, two representatives from the Afghan administration have been sent to Germany and are currently undergoing the registration process necessary for their work in coordinating these deportations.
These envoys will operate out of the Afghan embassy in Berlin and its consulate in Bonn.
The German government stated that further flights are planned as part of a systematic approach to expel those convicted of crimes, reinforcing Chancellor Friedrich Merz's commitment to a stricter immigration policy.
