Finance Ministers Discuss International Partnerships, Investments, and Tech Security at FII9

Participants in the “Sovereignty vs. Globalization” session at the Future Investment Initiative conference stress the importance of diversifying supply chains, investing in data centers, technology, AI, and achieving greater energy self-sufficiency.
Riyadh: During the ninth edition of the Future Investment Initiative (FII) conference, finance ministers from various countries emphasized the need for international partnerships, investments, and technological security.

The session focused on the balance between sovereignty and globalization, with participants calling for diversification of supply chains, increased energy self-sufficiency, investment in data centers, technology, and artificial intelligence (AI), as well as enhancing joint trade between allied and neighboring countries.

The dialogue session was attended by Ali bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari, Qatar's Minister of Finance, Rachel Reeves, the UK's Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Mehmet Simsek, Turkey's Minister of Finance.

According to reports from the Saudi Press Agency, they discussed the significance of globalization, trade, AI, and international cooperation, leading to technical agreements and direct partnerships aimed at resolving economic crises.

The ministers also highlighted the importance of strengthening multilateral organizations and building a rules-based system based on participation and joint cooperation.

UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Reeves emphasized that developing the economy is among the UK government's priorities.

To achieve this, stability and relationships with important allies are crucial.

She provided an overview of the UK's trade deals and agreements that demonstrate its ability to compete in the global market.

Al-Kuwari stated that Qatar remains open to foreign direct investment, citing the 2022 World Cup as a catalyst for infrastructure development and national identity.

He expressed enthusiasm for continuing to attract international investment, particularly since Qatar is a major producer of liquefied natural gas.

Al-Kuwari highlighted the importance of global cooperation in building partnerships and direct investments, such as economic cooperation and trade agreements.

In addition, he noted that AI and technology play a significant role in his country's strategy to diversify its economy.

Investing in AI and energy is deemed important and logical, given Qatar's capabilities in data, innovation, and aviation.

Turkish Treasury Minister Simsek underscored the importance of international and regional integration for countries.

This integration helps strengthen risk-bearing areas such as energy security and production.

He emphasized the significance of investing in technology, health, security, AI, data, and cybersecurity.

Simsek also pointed out the need to work on mitigating risks before they occur.

The discussions during FII9 underscored the critical role of international partnerships, investments, and technological security in addressing economic challenges and fostering global growth.
