Chinese Brand Honor Unveils New AI-Powered 'Magic 6 Pro' Smartphone
The Chinese technology company Honor launched its new smartphone, the "Magic 6 Pro," globally and showcased an AI-powered prototype that enables users to unlock and remotely operate their cars with just a glance at their phone screens.
This capability is already available in China, and the company is working on integrating it commercially overseas.
Huawei Technologies sold Honor in November 2020, and it is now a subsidiary of the government-owned company Shenzhen Zhixin.
Ahead of the annual Global Mobile World Congress set to begin in Barcelona on Monday, technology and telecommunications companies are releasing new products and features, hoping that the buzz associated with AI will boost their growth prospects.
Smartphone manufacturers are hopeful that this type of promotion will bolster the stagnant smart mobile market, though experts say that generative AI could raise legal or ethical concerns.
As reported by International Data Corporation (IDC), in 2023, Apple held a 17.3% market share in China, with Honor close behind at 17.1%.
Today, Honor also introduced its new laptop, the "MagicBook Pro 16," featuring AI that allows users to seamlessly drag-and-drop applications, such as messaging apps, from an Android smartphone to a Windows-based computer using a single finger gesture on the screen.
Honor's CEO, George Zhao, expressed in a statement the company's strong belief in the importance of cross-operating system compatibility, especially in the era of artificial intelligence.
