Complex Colonoscopy Procedure Successfully Performed at Al-Jouf's Prince Mutib Hospital
In a remarkable medical achievement, a complex colonoscopy surgery has been successfully carried out at the Prince Mutib bin Abdulaziz Hospital in the Al-Jouf region, a member of the Al-Jouf Health Cluster.
The medical team of the Colon and Rectal Surgery Department excelled in performing a rare surgical procedure on the sigmoid colon, located at the end of the descending colon. This procedure was necessitated due to a condition known as diverticulosis, caused by a dietary fiber deficiency, leading to repeated bouts of colon inflammation in a 50-year-old patient.
The medical team skillfully utilized a colonoscope to complete the surgery, which concluded successfully, with much gratitude expressed.
Diverticulosis, the disease in question, can cause severe complications such as extreme constipation and increased pressure inside the descending colon. This, in turn, can lead to the formation of bulges in the colon's lining, which may occur in the ascending colon as well, though more rarely. These bulges or diverticula can become inflamed and bleed, potentially leading to bloody stools, the presence of pus in the abdominal cavity, or abscess formation in the wall of the descending colon.
