Comic-Con 100% virtual this year

Comic-Con 100% virtual this year

Adapted to virtual formats due to the pandemic, Comic-Con in San Diego, United States, presents today its first digital edition, Comic-Con @ Home 2020, which will feature some 350 panels over five days, shared mainly on YouTube.

The organization of the event maintained the tradition of announcing its programming two weeks before on www.comic-con.org, so that its millions of supporters around the world could put together their own schedule of activities to follow.

For the first time in our 50-year history, we are pleased to welcome virtually anyone from around the world. Although the conditions of staying at home make this a very difficult time, we see this as an opportunity to spread a little joy and strengthen our sense of community. Comic-Con@Home will be an online event that will combine aspects of the convention experience with the comforts of home, said David Glanzer, Comic-Con spokesman, in a recent statement.

The agenda

Conferences begin today and include topics such as "Teaching and learning with comics", "How to publish an international youth comic in the Covid-19 era", "Words and images working together: strategies to analyze graphic texts", "New children's comics from the publishers of the Eisner Prize", "Conspiracy Theories and Propaganda Across Pop Culture", "Make Programming Your Super Power!", "GeekEd: Watchmen and the Cruelty of Masks" and "Books for All: Time to Redefine How We Share Books with children ”are some of the presentations of the opening day.

All can be followed at Youtube

The digital Comic-Con will continue until July 26 with hundreds of events that are detailed on the event's website

There will be presentations on Star Trek, Star Wars, The Boys, The Walking Dead, His Dark Materials, Bob's Burgers, Adventure Time: Distant Lands, Bill & Ted Face the Music , Marvel, Disney (Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe) and the participation of actor Keanu Reeves for the 15th anniversary of the film Constantine, among other content.

Most of the panels will also be available after the dates of July 22-26 on YouTube, although there are some that may only be available for a limited period of time, warns the organization of the largest convention of popular culture.

The new online museum of Comic-Con

Comic-Con Museum @ Home is a new alternative to the event's website, which will feed on the content of the Comic-Con physical museum, with videos of past events and new content created especially for the digital museum, which will also share material on social networks like Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, like @ComicConMuseum.

On the Comic-Con page there is also an exhibition hall for die-hard fans, a souvenir catalog and the Comic-Con Museum @ Home.

In the middle of last April, when the crisis caused by the new coronavirus was in full swing around the world, the spokesmen for the San Diego Comic-Con announced 'with regret' the cancellation of the convention, which was preparing to celebrate its golden anniversary. Then the organizers decided
move the event online and through virtual channels, as now has become a trend during the pandemic.

The story goes that Comic-Con began in 1970, as a modest gathering in the basement of a hotel in San Diego, in which some 100 sympathizers from the world of comics participated.

Now, it is the largest launching pad for the mainstream series, Hollywood movies and everything that has to do with the world of comics and popular culture.
