COVID-19 está siendo más agresivo y mucho más contagioso

Cedeño: Coronavirus is behaving differently than expected and is more aggressive

The director of the Metropolitan Health Region, Israel Cedeño, announced on Wednesday that the new coronavirus (COVID-19) has proven to be more contagious and aggressive than had been anticipated before which required the health system to be very dynamic to combat it.
The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and the WHO (World Health Organization) are reporting that the same virus itself made a mutation in its amino acids, in its genomic structure and therefore has now become more infectious, it is spread more easily. They also reported that it is more easily spread but that its lethality did not necessarily increase, Cedeño explained.

On the other hand, he explained that the evaluation for the authorization of convention centers and other facilities for the care of patients with COVID-19, is part of a reengineering for this behavior of the virus.

All public health strategies are dynamic, in March we had the complete assurance that we had a health system that was going to be able to respond, however it has been shown that the virus is behaving differently than everyone expected, it is being much more aggressive, so at that time with the capacity that we had installed in our hospitals it was enough, that does not mean that because in March I said that I have capacity I am going to stay with my arms crossed, no, at this moment I realized that even the virus has already been shown that it has mutated and consequently it is much more contagious, I have to reinvent myself as a health system, I have to reengineer, I have to adapt it and therefore what before I could say was not viable I seek the way to make it viable, said Cedeño.

He refers to the decision of the National Government in March not to accept a proposal of donation from the company China Construction America (CCA), to temporarily convert the Amador Convention Center into a level 1 hospital (observation ) for patients with COVID-19.

He added that in addition to the convention centers they have been evaluating other places both for shelters and for making tents, and other areas that have been gradually enabled according to need.
