Albania Appoints AI-Generated Minister to Combat Corruption
Prime Minister Edi Rama introduces 'Diella,' an artificial intelligence system designed to enhance transparency in public tenders.
TIRANA, Albania: Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has introduced a groundbreaking innovation in governance by appointing the world's first AI-generated government minister.
Named "Diella," which means 'sun' in Albanian, this artificial intelligence system is tasked with overseeing public tenders and ensuring they are free from corruption.
The appointment was made during a meeting of his Socialist Party following the party's significant victory in the May elections.
Rama emphasized that Diella's role will make public tenders "100-percent corruption-free," and all funds submitted to tender procedures will be fully transparent.
This AI system is designed to operate with absolute integrity, thereby enhancing Albania's efforts to combat corruption within its public administration.
Diella was initially launched in January as an AI-powered virtual assistant, featuring a digital representation of a woman dressed in traditional Albanian costume.
Its primary function has been to assist citizens through the e-Albania platform, which provides various documents and services.
Since its inception, Diella has successfully facilitated the issuance of 36,600 digital documents and delivered nearly 1,000 services via the platform.
Rama's decision to create this AI-generated minister is part of his broader strategy to lead Albania into the European Union.
The country aims to join the political bloc by 2030, with combating corruption being a critical factor in its bid for accession.
By leveraging advanced technology in governance, Albania demonstrates a commitment to transparency and accountability.
