A large number of people attended the funeral prayer and burial of the Saudi woman who was killed by her husband in an acid attack in Jeddah on Thursday.
Funeral prayer for the woman was offered at the Grand Mosque in Makkah after Asr prayer on Sunday and the body was buried at Al-Shuhadaa Cemetery in Al-Sharaie neighborhood of the holy city.
The man killed his wife, Rehab, and seriously injured her daughter from a previous marriage after pouring acid on them. The man, who fled the scene after committing the crime at their home in Al-Samir district in eastern Jeddah, was arrested by the police. The girl, who sustained serious burns, is convalescing at the intensive care unit of King Fahd Hospital.
Jamila Al-Zahrani, sister of the slain woman said that she and other family members had seen the murder suspect when he was brought to the police station. He did not show any signs of remorse for committing such a heinous crime, she said.
Al-Zahrani noted that she could not control herself when she saw her sister’s alleged killer at the police station. She shouted at him but he did not respond to her.
Al-Zahrani said the security authorities assured her and other family members that a number of criminal charges would be brought against the suspect. She said the father of the injured girl, who is the former husband of her slain sister, also filed a complaint against the suspect.
Separate petitions will be filed by five neighbors and members of the Civil Defense firefighting team who sustained burn injuries during the rescue operation.
