The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee is blocking a $735 million arms deal with Hungary due to Hungary's refusal to allow Sweden's accession to NATO.
The deal would see Hungary receive 24 HIMARS rocket launcher batteries.
Senator Jim Risch is using his power to block the deal unilaterally.
Some in the Hungarian government had criticized Sweden's democratic backsliding, but Hungarian Prime Minister
Viktor Orban has maintained good relations with Turkey, which is obstructing Sweden's membership in NATO.
Orban has stated that the war in Ukraine can only be resolved through diplomacy.
